Yesterday was our lazy day. In the morning, we hiked back
down to the Heikendorf harbor where we were surprised that Mulligan was
no longer tied to the pier. However, we were fortunate to see the tall
ship Gorch Foch anchored outside of the harbor. The cadets were
performing a sail handling drill and you could hear the officers barking
orders to the poor cadets. Of course it was foggy so we were lucky to
see the ship at all. Afterwards, we hiked back to the flat where
Wolfgang and Bob worked on some super secret software. Wolfgng would
translate the directions and Bob would implement them. Quite boring for
the other members of the crew.

Today we headed to
Hansestadt Hamburg to visit the Windpilot factory and see Wolfgang's
sister who lives in the canal district of Hamburg. Windpilot Peter was
waiting for us with Wolfgang's wish list of spare parts. Bob wants a
Windpilot but Ann say nein. Funny, she knows 'no' in quite a few
languages. We left Windpilot about 1000 and headed for Wolfgang's
sister, Sigrid. We got to her flat at 1030 but could find nowhere to
park. We circled and circled until Sigrid came out and said 'park
here' and so we did.

We decided to explore Hamburg and Sigrid led the way. We
passed by the church tower of Saint Nicholas which was seriously damaged
during World War II. It was left in its WWII state as a reminder of the
war and Nazi persecution. It is the largest church steeple we have
seen. Spectacular even now!

Santa came to Hamburg
today with one of his helpers and we were there to see him! Santa drove
his sled and reindeers on a heavy cable that was suspended over the
Markt. Lots of 'ho, ho, hos captured the attention kids and crews
alike. This is the first time Santa visited the Weihnachten Markt. Not
bad, Santa.

Speaking of Christmas Markets, Hamburg knows how to put
one on. They are much larger and much, much more crowded than the Kiel
Markts. The markets in Hamburg have all sorts of goodies from all
around Germany. Ann almost bought a little pig after standing in line
for 15 minutes but changed her mind when she found it cost 20 Euros.

After the Markts, we headed
for a restaurant with American style ambiance (but German food). It
reminded us a little of an Outback. Food was good and the price was not
too bad. Afterwards, we had to say goodby to Wolfgang's sister and
headed back to Heikendorf. Long drive back and we were tired when we
arrived at our flat at 2200.
