We arrived at Vero Beach after another motorsail
from Cocoa Beach FL (wind wasn't that good). We are at mooring #8 with a
pleasant Canadian couple from Ontario (Geoff and Bunky on S/V
Everden). This place is as nice as we remembered from
our land voyage last year. We can see why it is nicknamed
"Velcro Beach" as people find it difficult to leave. Ann is
on Everden learning to make bread in a pressure cooker. Her
last try was not too successful. Even the fish would not eat it
(but Bob tried).
The babies were still struggling with their
intestinal problems.
Levi had to go ashore on a non-scheduled time and he threw
up in the dinghy. Ugh! Ann cooked them some rice which
fixed them nicely after a day or two. We are in the South
mooring field which is less than a 5 minute dinghy run to a
very nice doggy park complete with dinghy tie-up. There are
lots of other dogs here. Levi and Gina met Jude (a husky),
LSTK (a little thing), and Oscar (a sheep dog). Levi did OK.
He is a little aggressive when it comes to other dogs, but he
did OK!
Weather here is moderating. Though the fronts are coming
every
three days or so, they are not as strong as before. There is a
strong one predicted for Thanksgiving day. It has been pleasant most
days. However, this morning it was only 49 F. We like windy, sunny
days at the mooring so that our wind generator and solar panels keep us
charged. Most folks have generators (or use their main engine) to charge
their systems. So far we have not had to run our engine to charge the
batteries. S/V Celena (Tom and Nancy) came to visit us
before they departed for Ft Pierce and beyond.
Hopefully we will meet up with them in the Exumas.
Most of the cruisers here are very friendly. Like anywhere else, there is
the occasional butthead (SV Butthead). There is going to be a cruiser's
Thanksgiving
dinner at the local community center. There should be over 100 cruisers
(fortunately not the butthead) attending. That should be fun. Ann is going
to make
here famous deviled eggs (Bob says they actually are pretty good).
Boat is holding up well. The doggy ramp is a popular
conversation piece in the
anchorage. So far neither dog has fallen. Sam just sneaked onto S/V
Everden.
She is getting bolder as the cruise progresses. Oops, there she goes again;
this
time she is walking the plank to sniff the dinghy engine. Not good. We are
going
to put a bell on her!
