7 Nov 2002, Offshore Again, 31 22.410 N/ 080 57.910 W

We were dreading the winding trip through Georgia, we decided to go on the 'outside' to Fernandina Beach, FL. We left Beaufort SC at 1030 with a favorable tide. The folks at Downtown Marina made our exit from the dock a 'piece of cake'. At 1615, we picked up a hitchhiker. Sammy and the hitchhiker did not get along. As I write this, the Betty Bird is still on the boat ... somewhere. Oh well, another 8 hours till daylight.

8 Nov 2002, Anchored at St Augustine FL, 29 53.770 N/ 081 18.530 W

Our offshore sail brought us to St Mary's River (Fernandina Beach FL). at 0530 this morning. We waited until daybreak before we entered the breakwater. We then motored on the ICW heading for St. Augustine FL where we set anchor at the North anchorage at 1530. Though we are tired, we didn't miss the ICW in Georgia. We found our little hitchhiker dead this morning. Apparently she came back last night but couldn't find anything to eat. However, we picked up a new stowaway somewhere in our journey. Billy Bat was attached firmly to our main sail cover. We thought he was dead also, but he went away at dusk (so I guess she wasn't dead). We will stay here for several days so soak up the sights and do provisioning..
