We spent several days
at St. Augustine to rest after our march down the coast.
Imagine the Castillo de
San Marco in your backyard. That's what we had
twelve hours a day (the other 12 saw the Bridge of
Lions [tidal current]). We found it hard to get started
on Saturday. We had not even splashed the dinghy
for our first 'drive' to St. Augustine.

At 1400, we received a call from Chris.
He told us to look to shore. Sure enough, there he was
again (he drove all night to meet us here in 2000) and
he brought the 'kids'! He and his girl friend drove all
night just to say "hi". Of course we brought the 'kids'
on board. We decided to take them to Vero with us.
Life is good! We spent the next two days checking out
the sites and restaurants. We went to our favorite, the
Colombia, and had a feast.

Yesterday we said farewell
to Chris, Celena (they had arrived the night before),
and St. Augustine. We wanted
to get to Daytona Beach before the storm arrived (the
storm that will spawn the killing tornadoes in the East).
What a trip from hell! The current was against us for
over 10 hours! We had to deal with the Fort Mantanzas
shoaling (a very narrow channel with only 5 feet at low
tide), and 10 hours of endless current (oh, I already
mentioned that). The last drawbridge of the day
would not open for us. It took intervention from the
previous bridge to finally get it to open. Apparently
the operator was asleep. We arrived at Halifax Harbour
Marina at 1645 (we are doing a few marinas while we
have the 'kids'. Nice marina!!
