23 Sep 2014, Taking a Break at Shipwright, 38 46.512 N/ 076 33.786 W

We waited for weather and while we were waiting we were planning a new Plan A. So at 1745 yesterday we executed Plan A. We exited the inlet at slack water with really nasty seas. The Coast Guard sent two cutters to give us assistance in case we needed it. Once we left the inlet, the seas laid down and the overnight was not too bad. We were mostly sailing with a reefed main and a shortened jib. We waited at the Cape May inlet until sunrise then transited the canal. It was hard to see the railroad bridge. Entered the Delaware Bay at 0800 just in time for the wind to switch to SW and the current turn from foul to favorable. Entered C&D canal at 1600 and anchored in Still Pond 1930. Plan A was perfect!
We left the Pond at 0715 with winds 10-15 kts out of the North with jib and motor. Tied up at Shipwright Harbor at 1500. Love this place. People are friendly and facilities are clean. We are leaving the boat to visit our family in Vienna VA.
Here in Vienna, we get to visit our son Chris, his wife Christina, and our grandkids Collin and Lilli. Bob likes to play games with the kids, like kitchen ball and school bus game. The picture shows Bob and Lilli in deep concentration waiting for the school bus. Lilli won. Collin always wins. Grandpa is getting old.

28 Sep 2014, Up to the SSCA Gam and Back Down, 38 53.022 N/ 076 31.596 W

We left Shipwright early on Wednesday and headed for the Rhode River for the 2014 SSCA Gam. Weather was predicted to be foul on Wednesday and Thursday so we anchored and hunkered down. Good thing. Thursday was awful and the Thursday dinghy raft-up was canceled. At least it was windy so we got some power. Not as crowded as last year.
The seminars were remarkably good especially as the keynote speaker, Claiborne Young, sadly died in a motorcycle accident. Steven and Beth were in charge of the speakers and they did a wonderful job! Lots of newbies there but many, many veterans chose to pass on the Gam.
