26 Feb 2021, Visits and Visitors, 28 30.21 N/ 080 46.872 W

We used Manatee as our homeport to entertain friends/cruisers and also as a springboard to visit folks in Orlando, Vero Beach, and Florida City. Our first visitors were our old RV mates, Butch and Vicki. You may remember that they met us in Hunting Island SC a few months back. Now they were visiting us in Manatee. They even brought a wash pail so we could have a campfire. They stayed three days before they had to head back to Oriental NC.

Our next guests were Nancy and Tom formally of SV Celena who have a home in Palm Coast. They came to check out our RV and talk about their new class A. We have known them for over 15 years and cruised with them throughout the Bahamas. The picture to the left in the gallery is the gang at Staniel Cay Yacht Club in 2011. We were quite young then, weren't we?

We visited our old time Carolina Beach marina mate who now spends seasonal RVing in a fancy RV facility outside of Miami. We have not seen them in quite a while and Covid had complicated matters. Dave and Donnie spend 6 months there and 6 months in Carolina Beach/Kure Beach NC. We went to a 'safe' restaurant (Olive Garden) where we ate 'in'. It was great seeing them.

Our last stop was to see Harry and Sheila in Orlando (we had seen them in Cocoa the week before). Sheila got us all some carryout from the famous Columbian restaurant. We could only stay a short while and then we had to head back to homeport to slowly get ready for departure. These three weeks went very quickly. Great trip!

3 Mar 2021, Camping on Lake Marion, 33 31.812 N/ 080 29.49 W

We took our rental car back to Titusville and then headed for Santee State Park (Cypress View Campground)which is located right off I-95 next to the town of Santee. We were awe struck by the beauty of the place. The water was clear (mostly), the camp site private (not yet season), and we had a great view of Lake Marion. Butch and Vicki recommended this place. We thanked them when we next saw them.
The lake has two boat ramps, an office, over 150 camp sites (only 45+ at Cypress View). They (camp rangers) says next month starts 'high season' where the campgrounds will be full and the boat ramps overflowing. They say that there is good 'fishin'. In the large cropping of cypress tress that grow in 5 ft' of water in the middle of the lake. They were just beginning to come to life for the season.
The snack bar/bait shop/trinket store was not open; only during the weekends before high season. It looked like fun from the window. They have cottages on a dock and cottages on the shore. Many are animal friendly. It has been a long while since I walked through a temperate forest with the sweet smell of freshly falling oak leaves. This place is definitely on our 'come back' list.

Tomorrow we head up towards the Neuse River basin to visit friends.
