We had a nice 4th (actaully 6th) of July. We
invited friends and familty over to the boat for a cook-out.
Pete and his brood (S/V Brass Ring) came by early to
help set stuff up. Pete's mate, Karen is stantioned at the
Azores so, of course, could not make it. Dennis and PJ
(S/V Kate) came by also to have some burgers and see
the fireworks at Herrington Harbour South. Fireworks were
not a disappointment!

On Monday, we set sail for Hartges
in the West River to practice picking up a mooring. Boy is
it hot! We had a gentle breeze at 5-8 knots from the SW
so we could sail (albeit slow at 3 knots) directly to Hartges.
Ann picked up the mooring on the first try. It is quite snug
in the mooring field but it is calm The new dinghy engine
(Yamaha 3 HP) is a dream to start and is very quiet...a far
cry from our old Nisson. We decided to stay until
Wednesday morning as they were calling for T-showers
Tuesday.

The 'kids' are doing better in the heat than we
expected. Bob had to go out in the cockpit Monday night
and sleep for a while but the boat finally cooled off. Levi
was anxious to get to shore for his evening pee and almost
went into the drink. The ramp continues to work well and
Levi and Gina are not afraid to 'walk the plank' Tomorrow
we head for Annapolis and pick up a mooring there.
