Off we go again. This day we head for Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island (PEI). We get to go on another ferry, this time from Caribou NS to Woods Island PEI. The trip lasted about 90 minutes. It was a very smooth operation. Easy in - easy out. They have a simple pricing scheme getting on and off the island, independent if you use the bridge (western side of island) or ferry (east). You only pay when you leave the island.
PEI is a land of farming and fishing. The farms are large and beautiful. Lilli taught us about the different types of wheat and what potato fields and flowers look like. We got educated. On the way to Charlottetown, we detoured a bit to check out a lighthouse on the southern coast. The lighthouse is called Prim Point Light and is currently under management of the local community (except for the light itself). Plus they had a gift shop. We all made out like bandits.
Home was the Canadian Best Western motel right outside of Charlottetown. There were provisioning facilities and restaurants within walking distance. We drove up to the north coast to the Cavendish Beach area where one day we visited the Shining Water Family Fun Beach. It is a smallish amusement park with swimming pool, rides, nature areas, and a place to eat. Lilli was nervous with the large sliding tubes and they wouldn't let her use her goggles in the pool. Capt. Bob took her on a little cruise on a really small boat and she took a ride on a little roller coaster. She would have had more fun if she could have used her goggles.
Next, we went Cavendish Beach National Park to swim in St. Lawrence waters. We were not accustomed to the water or the beach. Everything was red. The surrounding rocks were red, the water was red, the sand was red, and Lilli was turning red. Not the best time for our little grand girl.

Left for St. John on the 4th and crossed the Confederation Bridge for which we payed CAD 46 (which covered the ferry and the bridge). New Brunswick appears to be a poorer and more rural province when compared to PEI and NS. The farms were smaller and less organized. There not many towns in NB from the northern border to St. John. Our motel was a Hampton Inn and Suites. We headed for the downtown area once we got established in our room (very nice). St. John does not seem to be focused on tourism as the places to shop and dine are quite limited in the old downtown area. It was getting hot so we were getting tuckered.
One of the famous landmarks is the Reversing Rapids which is located on the St. John River. Unfortunately, we were not there when they were really impressive. However, as we were leaving St. John, we passed near the Reversing Rapids and we did see the rapids going up river.
Our last day there we did discover the City Market. Lots of touristy stuff here. We got tee shirts, pictures, and other trinkets. It actually was quite nice. Reminded us a bit of Charleston's (SC) expansive Market. When back to the room, bathing suits were worn and we headed for the indoor pool where they had a multi-story slide tube. Lilli went down several times before GPo had the courage to go down. But he did. What a guy! The slide was really a high point in Lilli's trip to Atlantic Canada.
All good things must end and our trip is no exception Today we enter the USA and will stay in a Days Inn in Sturbridge MA. Tomorrow we will dropp Lilli off in Vienna VA and a day later Grandma and GPo will be back in Wilmington. A great trip. Even Mattie Kay enjoyed it.
