The bus system at MDI, which is sponsored by L.L Bean, is
an excellent resource for the cruiser. Friendly drivers, comprehensive
routes, and flexible schedules enabled us to travel pretty much anywhere
on the island; and we did. Did we mention it is all free?

We were able to attend Mass at Holy Redeemer Church in
Bar Harbor twice during our stay in Somesville. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the bus hub at
Village Green to the church. Very convenient. While visiting Bar
Harbor, we visited Arcadia National Park via Oli's Trolley. We received
a 2.5 hour tour of the mountains, overlooks, and natural attractions of
Arcadia. Bar Harbor saw Bob get a hair cut at "Razor Ray's", Ann shopped
until she dropped, and Jule III re-provisioned at Hannaford's Market.

The crews of Jule III and Wander II took the bus to
Jordon Pond to walk a carriage road and a hiking trail. Weather was
perfect and the crowds were not oppressive. The only negative was the
bicyclists were a bit aggressive (or inexperienced) on the carriage
roads. Consequently, we quickly migrated to the hiking paths.

The trail that followed the shore of the Pond was most
pleasant with many scenic vistas of Jordon Pond. Most of the trail was raised by a
primitive boardwalk to keep feet dry in the swampy area. Walking was
difficult in some places but we quickly adapted by taking frequent breaks.

Back at the anchorage, we heard someone calling us. We
popped our heads out of the cabin to find old neighbors, Eric and Omi,
on a C-Dory powerboat; quite surprising as they live in Virginia. It
turns out that they were camping with their trailer-able C-Dory at MDI
and chose Somesville as a place to visit. Great seeing them!
