I arrived back to the boatyard (Herrington Harbour North)on 15 March and the weather had not thawed much. I started the 'on the hard' chores; such as cleaning the hull and deck, replacing the STW speed paddle-wheel (the yard over-pressure washed it in the fall), replaced the zincs and touched up the bottom paint.

On the 28th, we splashed Jule III and had her moved to Shipwright Harbor
Marina - her home marina. As I noted last year, solo sail handling
(i.e., re-installing the three sails) is not much fun with only two
hands. Still, I persisted even with Mattie snickering below deck.
Filling and installing the diesel Jerry jugs was not difficult as the
boat was now afloat (plus Scott took pity on this old salt and handed me
the Jerrys)
In a couple of days, Mattie and I will go provisioning with an eye on Wednesday for our around-the Bay mini cruise. Friends and the Memory of Ann strongly discouraged any solo overnights or ocean sailing this year (or maybe forever). The route illustrated on the right is our intended track. Mattie and I will head North through Annapolis, Georgetown (on the Sassafras), Chesapeake City, St. Michaels, Oxford, Solomons, Reedville, and Deltaville. If we have time we may sail as far South as Norfolk/Portsmouth. We will see.

While we wait, we get to enjoy the Spring love stories of the ospreys and a early spring cold front that packed high winds and a bit of lightning. For the first week or so of voyaging, we should experience a bit of ideal weather. The mainsail will not see much work as I am a cowardly solo cruiser (CSC). With jib and jigger sailing (jib and mizzen sails only), the solo skipper can manage the sails without going up on deck. We also have that motor thing.

It is April 19th at 1325 and we arrived in Annapolis, Maryland at the main mooring field in Spa Creek. Mattie and I left Deale, Maryland at approximately 0830 with winds WNW at 4-5 kts. There was no difficulty leaving the slip as the wind was in a favorable direction to back out. Wind was 10 to 12 kts as I picked up the ball (after the third try). Best speed to approach is about half a knot, give it a second or two of reverse, then pick up the ball on the starboard side. The dinghy was not used as we have to cut parts of this trip short due to the death of a close cruising friend. Mattie and I will spend the next day chilling and take in the sights
