23 Jul 2017, Land Voyage Begins, 41 38.52 N/ 070 54.414 W

The gang (Grandma, GPo, Lilli, and Mattie) headed out for our Atlantic Canada Land Voyage (ACLV) from Vienna VA at 0515 EDT yesterday. The mates slept much of the trip to Fairhaven MA while Ann drove and Bob rode (The Admiral still doesn't trust Bob with her car.) Google and Waze did a magnificent job navigating us through the highways and byways of MD, DE, NJ, NY, CN, and MA. Ann beat Google's original ETA even with fuel and pottie stops. We arrived at Fairhaven MA around 1530 where we were greeted by this magnificent looking high school.
First stop at the Seaport Inn and Marina was the indoor swimming pool. Lilli was biting at the bit to get in the pool and of course GPo had to go into the pool also. Grandpa is not much for the pool but he finally 'jumped' (yeah, right) into the water. Lilli was in hog heaven. Grandpa was cold. The Admiral spent her time in the hot tub.
Today is Sunday so Bob went to the local church, St. joseph's. It was a ten minute walk through nice and neat streets. The congregation reflected the neighborhoods: Portuguese, Greek, Italian, Black, Latino, and us tourists. Good service and great sermon.
After church, we took a day trip to Wareham and Onset. At Wareham, we went to Lilli's favorite Mexican Restaurant, La Mariachi and at Onset, we got to visit with Barry at the Point Independence Yacht Club. Barry (and Glenn) were our best buddies when we visited Onset two years ago where Ann ended up with an operation on her leg. Barry and Glenn took great care of us. Afterwards, we drove back to Fairwaven to pack for our ferry crossing to Nova Scotia tomorrow.

25 Jul 2017, Taking the CAT to Nova Scotia, 43 50.442 N/ 066 07.242 W

Left Fairhaven at at 0800 for our passage to Portland ME at the CAT ferry terminal. We had to wait for about an hour before we could board. The rains came, the fog was threatening, but the ferry was running. It was interesting to leave Cape Elizabeth on a ferry instead of Jule III.Ferry was traveling between 20-25 kts. It normally would do better but one of its engines was not doing too well.
Our 6 hour trip took 8 hours. We didn't arrive in Yarmouth until 0030, out of customs by 0100, tucked into the Best Western Mermaid at 0130, and sound asleep by 0200. It is still raining rather hard. It seems to have followed us from Portland.
